European Academy of Religion 2025 in Vienna
The eighth annual conference of the European Academy of Religion will take place in Vienna from 8 to 12 July 2025, hosted by the research centre “Religion and Transformation in Contemporary Society” (RaT) – a platform that brings together the interdisciplinary research on religion at the University of Vienna.
- The Call for Proposals is now open until December 15, 2024
- Visit the Proposal Submission page to read all information
The conference programme will comprise working sessions, including open and closed panels, book presentations and keynote lectures focusing on the overarching topic Religion and Socio-Cultural Transformation: European Perspectives and Beyond.
Contemporary societies and religions continually undergo transformations fueled by diverse socio-cultural forces. The role of religion within Europe and beyond remains contentious, facing the challenges of fundamentalism, the colonial past, migration, ecological crises, gender issues and digitalisation. Religious dynamics, amidst secularisation and a growing public visibility of religion, raise questions about their potential for fostering societal cohesion and in facilitating positive individual and collective transformations.
